The Gluten Free Wedding Guest

This past weekend, I attended the wedding of one of my dear old friends in the beautiful city of Sonoma, Ca. The festivities took place on a private vineyard, with the mountains as a perfect backdrop to the whole affair!
{Fancy, huh!}
They shared their vows amongst rows of grapes that would soon be plucked, stomped, and fermented into Cabernets, Bordeauxs, and Pinot Noirs.
{Is it wine o'clock yet?}
There was no lack of romance and love in the air, I can tell you that for sure.

As I was preparing for the weekend of events, choosing the perfect outfit, complementary eyeshadow that would give the perfect amount of understated wow, and the perfect shade of lipstick that matched my shawl. I started getting nervous about the food. Would the gluten free options be truly gluten free? What if there was cross contamination?

I made sure that I had noted that I was gluten free when I RSVP'd months before. So I did my part, and could only hope that the caterers won't let me and my sensitive digestive system down. Anyway, I am sure I was not going to be the only gluten free guest at the reception shy of 150 guests, right?
{Ha! I was the sole GF guest in the mix!}

Two days before the nuptials, I got a surprise, but definitely reassuring, text message from the bride to be, confirming that my meal was completely gluten free and that she spoke to the caterers about it.
{Are brides able to sense what their guests are worried about before they attend the wedding?}

Being that this was the first wedding I was attending as the gluten free guest, I really didn't know what to expect. So of course, I was so excited and relieved because I didn't want to make a fuss, or spend the greater part of the reception in my own private WC.

Even though, I knew I wouldn't be able to have any of the wedding cake or most of the hors d'oeuvres - everything else was 100% seamless and perfect! One of the servers in charge of my section approached me before dinner was served to confirm I was the gluten free guest. And went over the menu with me!
{Way to make this GF gal feel special!}

As the sun set and the wine and champagne flowed, the night was off to a memorable bang!

Three cheers to the bride & groom!
And a special shout out to the super attentive catering staff for making sure gluten never touched my plate and that my champagne flute was never empty!
